Who Is Ken Honda?
こんにちは (Kon'nichiwa), my name is Ken Honda. People call me the “Zen Millionaire” but I see myself as simply someone on a mission to bring peace and happiness into your relationship with money.
Over the years, I’ve written 120 books and sold over 8 million copies worldwide, including Happy Money—a global bestseller now available in 32 languages and over 50 countries.
My journey began when I was just a young boy, but it was not an easy one.
A close family friend, burdened by debt, made a heartbreaking decision to take his life and the lives of his family. That tragedy shook me to my core and made me realize how much power money has over us—not just in practical terms, but emotionally as well.
That moment planted a seed in my heart: I needed to understand why something as common as money could cause so much suffering—and whether it could also be a source of joy and freedom.
At 29, after building several successful businesses, I achieved financial freedom and retired. But instead of stopping there, I became deeply curious about what made people truly happy and fulfilled—especially those who had found success.
I surveyed over 12,000 self-made millionaires and had the honor of being mentored by Wahei Takeda, the “Warren Buffett of Japan.”
What I discovered was life-changing. The wealthiest, happiest, and most fulfilled people didn’t just focus on the strategies of earning and investing money—what I call “Money IQ”—but rather more on Money EQ, the emotional intelligence that shapes our relationship with money and wealth.
